Milking the Drama
I must be a masochist but lately, I’ve been looking at old pictures, old videos, listening to old songs, reminiscing about the happy times–everything a girl fresh from break-up is not supposed to do. My caller ringback is Once in a Lifetime by Freestyle and “Don’t Forget About Us” by Mariah Carey is my ring tone. Pathetic right? But I don’t mind wallowing in the sea of patheticness right now so I could smile and be happy on Saturday.
But of course, on the bright side(s), there are so many things I can be grateful for, sympathetic friends, my safety and security in a dangerous world, my wonderful officemates who’re always feeding me, and strangers who don’t know me but are extremely nice to me.
So today to Friday, I’ll milk all the drama for what it’s worth, I’ll be the telenovela heroine who does nothing but sigh and cry. I’ll be hearing background music in my head at every nostalgic place. And I’ll pig out on all my comfort foods and treat myself to nice things. Looks like the storm isn’t completely over yet so I’ll have to ride it out once more.
Chapter 1-Ferris Wheels
I never really understood why ferris wheels are a staple carnival ride. It’s long, slow and boring, who’d enjoy something like that when you can go for something fast and dangerous like a roller coaster? Until of course, I rode it with him and then I realized, ferris wheels are for cutting across the sky…with the person you love. –excerpt from shegotgame.blogspot.com
The problem with long term relationships is, the longer you stay together, the more routinary and ordinary things become. So Cathleen got this bright idea of celebrating their anniversary in Enchanted Kingdom just to break out of the mold of dinner and gifts, so she kidnapped her boyfriend Samuel from his office (she conspired with his officemate to file his leave for him), blindfolded him, got him in her car and sped off to Laguna for a day of fun and excitement. It sounds romantic right? Well…
She would have enjoyed the ride more if Samuel’s face didn’t look green from holding his puke in.
“Ano ka ba? It’s a ferris wheel for crying out loud! It’s not fast, it won’t toss you in the air, so why are you telling me na nahihilo ka?” asked Cathleen, exasperated.
Samuel closed his eyes as if to block the image of being up in the air 20 feet off the ground, he hastily opened them again when he realized that it made the airborne sensation more acute. Clearly uncomfortable and ready to throw up at any strong gust of wind, he gritted his teeth and answered, “Eh kasi nagse-sway.”
Cathleen raised her eyebrow. The ferris wheel wasn’t moving much in fact, it was a slow and tedious ride that almost bored her to tears until now of course since she’s very much amused and entertained by her boyfriend’s predicament. “For a guy who has fits of road rage, ang hina naman ng tiyan mo.”
“Ah basta! can we ride the bump cars after?” asked Samuel crossly.
“But we rode it for like three times already!”
“Sayang yung entrance fees, sulitin na natin,” retorted Samuel crossly.
Cathleen opened her mouth but then she smiled impishly instead. “Okay fine.” and shifted fast and hard to make their seat rock.
Samuel looked alarmed. “Will you stop that?”
Cathleen shifted sharply to the left this time. And leaned back hard with all her body gravity. “Stop what?” She bounced thrice to get the point across.
“Sige, sige, no more bump cars! Tigil mo na before I throw up on your shoes!” threatened Samuel.
Cathleen laughed. “Awww…poor Sammy! Fine, fine. I’ll stop. Tell me you love me muna.”
Samuel looked extra green and with his hands covering his mouth, he quickly said, “I love you!”
Cathleen quickly moved from her seat across Samuel to his side. “I love you too Sammy,” she said softly as she lay her head against his shoulder. Their ride slowly descended as Cathleen gazed at the setting sun. “Two years pa right?” she murmured against his shoulder. She felt his shoulders lurch a bit.
He was silent for a minute before saying, “Er.. is the ride done? I really need to puke now.”
